A Love Fable

There was a young man once in the midddle of his youth
Searching for the rock that lied behind the bitter truth
While wandering the hills he did hear a song of hope
'Twas a maiden young and fair in the valley far below

And so he ran to find the way to her heart
And on this day the seed of love was planted firm
And in her eyes he could see bluest skies fall a miracle
A single tear of joy

Hi-de-hi-de-hey, now hide away your tears
This day is brighter far than all the starry stars
Hi-de-hi-de-hey, they danced for all the day
On wings of love born true, bolder than the blue

The days filled a promise for all life held in store
Until misfortune came as he was beckoned off to war
With one last embrace, they pledged their faith to be
The key to hold their love forever through eternity

And by the fire she would read every word
In his letters until she heard that he had fallen
Under fire on the front, so she prayed for his life to keep
Holding ever on

Hi-de-hi-de-hey, now hide away your tears
For the emptiness inside, a love that cannot die
Hi-de-hi-de-hey, the skies are clouded gray
And the fire's in the well and only time will tell

With three years passed the day arrived when he came home
But something had been lost in all the scars that took their toll
His innocence was hardened by the struggle to survive
The horrors of a war that doomed many to die

And so she laid him in her arms by the firre
With all her faith and her desire to heal the battle wounds
In his soul, for she remembered the pledge of faith
They made so long ago

Hi-de-hi-de-hey, now hide away your fears
Our love is stronger far than all the ruins of wars
Hi-de-hi-de-hey, our love is here to stay
And now the sun is shining down to fold its rays around
     two hearts forever bound
