This Mustard Tree

With no attachment to the outcome
I could grow a garden sweet
And lose my earthy life to save the branches
Sitting on this mustard tree

And I bend to list the whistling breeze
     with effortless ease
And I sing without trying one note
     pure and easy

Somehow it feels like I am being led
Just where I cannot tell
I could be one bursting drop
At the top of the grandest waterfall
And give it everything I have, and give it my all
In joyful abandonment I fall

And I hold on, I hold on to hopes
     treading on this hill
And I let go, I let go to let life happen
     as it will
I believe in the goodness
in every set of eyes I see
I believe in the goodness --
the sun and the earth and the seven seas
And I can see it all sitting on this mustard tree

With every breath, I breathe in life easier
It doesn't have to be so hard
The quiet sounds, and I can hear it -- clearly
The source of life and truth is not far

And I bend to list the whistling breeze
     with effortless ease
And I sing without trying one note
     pure and easy

There is a giving, a kind of selfless giving
That flows as beautifully as any streamlet could
And when I bend to lend this giving
I am receiving all that's good
And it feels so light, like it's no burden or task
And it feels like I've found the path of happiness at last

And I hold on, I hold on to the hopes
     treading on this hill
And I let go, I let go to let life happen
     as it will
I believe in the goodness
in every set of eyes I see
I believe in the goodness --
the sun and the earth and the seven seas
And I can see it all sitting on this mustard tree
