Old Man at Point Reyes

Been a long time since I walked
on the cliffs that lay by the sea
My heart freshly broken in pieces
bigger than me
As I wondered if I could still run
with the thundering waves
He cast out his line and I heard
for the first time
The old man at Point Reyes
He said if you ask all
and really believe
You can walk on the surface of
bottomless seas
You can move mystic mountains
like castles of sand
You can empty your sorrows
As I came closer to his perch,
in his eyes lay a faraway gaze
As if he could forecast
the catch of the day
So I told him my troubles and he
grinned in a knowing kind way
His old hands agrip
he reeled in the headwinds
The old man at Point Reyes
He said if you ask all
and really believe
You can walk on the surface of
bottomless seas
You can move mystic mountains
like castles of sand
You can empty your sorrows
and then you can...
Listen the sound of your heart
beating fast as it echoes to send you
all that you ask
Listen the sound of your heart
I ventured up northward just one more time,
the old man to see
My hopes nearly shipwrecked,
lost on a storm-tossed sea
As I rounded the cliffs where
the old lighthouse stood in the haze
I heard not a sound 'til I came on his tombstone
and I felt the wind blow
and I thought I heard,
I thought I heard him singing:
If it's love you are asking
and really believe
You can walk on the surface
of bottomless seas
You can move mystic mountains
like castles of sand
You can empty your sorrows
and then you can...
Listen the sound of your heart
beating fast as it echoes to send you
all that you ask
Listen the sound of your heart
And it still reminds me, the waves thundering,
the old man at Point Reyes
